Als direkte Konkurrenz zum Mittelklasse-Primus Passat stellte Honda 2002 eine neue Generation des Accord vor. Mit reichlich Platz im Innenraum, einer umfangreichen Serienausstattung u.a. mit Regensensor, Navigationssystem mit Touch-Screen, Multifunktionslenkrad und Klimaanlage sowie einem guten Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis war der Accord durchaus den Kauf wert. Neben der Fließhecklimousine wurde der Accord in Europa ausschließlich als Kombi (Tourer) angeboten.
